Today we wrap up our review of the 5 basic steps of paint care that are guaranteed to give your car a showroom shine. You too can achieve the gleaming perfection you admire in a professional finish by following these steps:
- Wash (see our July 7 post)
- Clean and prep (see our July 9 post)
- Polish
- Protect
- Maintain
Step 3 - Polish
Polishes come in two varieties: cleaner and pure. Cleaner polishes are used to remove fine, light defects while restoring a smooth, clear, high-gloss surface. Pure polishes are used to hone to a high gloss finishes that are already in excellent condition. Pure polishes create the breathtaking, deep dark reflections that characterize the high gloss finishes of showroom dazzlers. Meguiar’s has polishing products specifically formulated for every type of paint: clear coats, lacquers, enamels, plastics and ploy resins. Each contains Meguiar’s trade secret polishing oils that fill naturally-occurring microscopic pores and imperfections in the surface to maintain the original condition of the paint and improve optical clarity.
Step 4 - Protect
Waxes form a protective film against weather, road grime and other detrimental or corrosive substances that can damage your paint finish. Waxes may be made of synthetic or natural ingredients or a combination of both. This protective barrier “seals” the paint surface to keep damaging substances from attacking the finish of your car. Meguiar’s professional waxes also add shine and create a slick, wet-looking gloss that enhances the reflective characteristics of darker finishes.
Step 5 - Maintain
Maintenance products allow you to quick clean your car and restore that “just waxed” look in a matter of minutes. Quick detailers and bug and tar removers eliminate contaminants before they have a chance to bond to your finish. Quick waxes easily restore existing wax protection between detailing.
